Jamb
The vertical sides of a door or window frame. Jambs are key components in the construction of doors and windows, providing structural support and a surface for attaching hinges and hardware. They also contribute to the thermal and sound insulation of the opening.

Joist
Horizontal structural elements used to support floors or ceilings. Joists are typically made of wood or steel and are spaced at regular intervals to provide a stable base for the floor or ceiling surface. They play a crucial role in the structural integrity of a building and must be properly sized and spaced according to the load they will bear.

Construction glossary term - Joint Compound

Joint Compound
Also known as drywall mud, it is a material used to finish drywall joints, corners, and surfaces. The compound is applied over drywall tape to create a smooth, seamless surface that can be painted or wallpapered. It requires skill to apply and sand for a professional finish.

Joist Hanger
A metal bracket used to anchor joists to structural elements like beams or ledger boards. Joist hangers provide a strong, secure connection, ensuring the structural integrity of decks, floors, and ceilings.

Junction Box
An enclosure used in electrical systems to house wiring connections. Junction boxes protect wire connections and provide a safe, accessible location for inspecting and maintaining the electrical system. They are required by building codes and must be installed according to strict guidelines to ensure electrical safety.
