Backsplash
A protective covering installed on walls behind sinks, stoves, or countertops to prevent water damage and stains. They can be made of various materials like tiles, stone, or stainless steel.
Backer Board
A flat material (often cement-based) used as a substrate for tiles in areas prone to moisture like bathrooms and kitchens. It provides a stable surface for tile installation.
Baseboard
Molding or trim installed at the bottom of interior walls, covering the joint between the wall and the floor. It adds a decorative finish while also protecting the wall base from damage.
Batten
Narrow strips of wood or other materials used to cover joints or gaps between siding, roofing materials, or wall panels. They can also provide structural support or serve decorative purposes.
Bay Window
A window structure that projects outward from the main wall of a building, creating additional interior space and often enhancing aesthetics.
Bearing Wall
A load-bearing wall that supports the structural weight of a building, transferring it down to the foundation. Altering or removing such walls requires careful consideration and structural reinforcement.
Bevel
A surface that’s not at a right angle to another surface, typically formed at an angle other than 90 degrees, often seen in edges of countertops or tiles.
Bifold Doors
Doors with hinged panels that fold in half when opened, usually used for closets, room dividers, or larger openings.
Building Code
A set of regulations and standards established by local authorities that specify minimum safety and construction standards for buildings and structures.
