What does green mean to you?

Clients have a wide range of what “Green Building” and “Sustainability” mean to them personally. For us it means a complete approach to building homes that are energy efficient saving natural resources and your hard-earned money, using materials that are less taxing on the environment, and concerns about indoor air quality leading to healthier lives for the owners and their families.

There are many approaches that can be taken and as with most, they will be driven by budget and payback. Things like geothermal, energy-saving appliances, lighting, insulation, airtightness, solar, wind getting off the grid, and a host of other options can be explored within the parameters of the budget and goals of the owner to meet their needs. A number of the options are just considered good building practices in our mind and are already being adopted into building codes.

We analyze our client’s home as part of the design process using a blower door and thermal imager as well as a thorough inspection and then make recommendations to improve comfort, indoor air quality, and energy savings.
